Esentially, Phoenix Bodies is just a band made up of 5 very different individuals with very different ideas of what this band means, it's purpose, and what it gives back to us personally.

Phoenix Bodies began in the late summer of 2001 as a side project of sorts for Colin with Thomas and Carl. Derek & Ben were added as vocalists in 2003. Adam replaced Ben in fall of 2003. The line up has since remained the same.

Init Records released the split CD with Enkephalin in July of 2003 and we did a tour together. In December of 2003 we recorded 6 new tracks with Mike Dixon (Rapider Than Horsepower) for splits with Shikari, Raein, and Tyranny of Shaw. We played a bunch of shows and then did a month long European tour that spanned 7 countries.

Shoemaker levy 9 was a hardcore band from the North of France. Its personality is marked by the many musical influences of each member of the line up. Its universe is located at the very frontiers of the sonorous extreme. In the September of 2002, the band was formed under the name of Down for life. The band has evolved, and obtained its first on stage experiences through about forty gigs in France, and abroad. Down for life recorded an EP in February 2000 called “It’s always the same old Story”, and had 250 copies pressed. This production was distributed and reviewed on specialised networks. The band obtained an initial experience of recording and established links with labels and distributors. In September 2004, the band welcomed a new drummer. It took advantage of this change to choose a new band name more suitable for the evolved style of syncopated and abrasive hardcore. Down for life became Shoemaker Levy 9. The band worked at creating a new performance, and in June 2005 recorded its first in-studio album, “Pantheon”. This first album mixes the more contemporary aspects of extreme music through a mathcore and chaotic hardcore. This mix of extremes gives birth to a meeting of grindcore, nu-jazz, and electro.

Loftus was a progressive hardcore/noise rock band from 2002 till 2007. The band was based in Seal Beach California and played primarily in and around the southern california hardcore scene. The band toured the west coast of the U.S. in 2005, Europe in the summer of 2006 and played their final show at Chain Reaction in anaheim on January 13, 2007. They released one full length record titled "Hugs and Drugs" on Monarchy Music in 2005 and an untitled 7 inch record that was released by the band in 2006. The band officially ended after the death of lead singer Davis Miller on February 1, 2008.

The band was known for their unique blend of dischordant noise and melody which set them apart from their contemporaries in the southern california music scene. The self titled 7 inch saw a sonic change with the music becoming more and more complex and Miller's vocals shifting from screaming to more of a panicked yell. The band also garnered attention for their high energy live shows and the intense stage presence of singer Davis Miller whose antics were unorthodox and commonly controversial. The band maintained a cult like popularity throughout their career, polarizing audiences to either love or hate them, and continue to gain popularity with new fans who download their music.

Thumbscrew has a pretty interesting mix of influences heard in their brand of noise/metal. There’s a good amount of Dillinger Escape Plan technicality, Converge’s raw, gristly sound, and plenty of methamphetamine to keep a man up for days. I hadn’t heard but a couple tracks from their previous release, All Is Quiet, so this really was my first real introduction to the band.
