Sex Positions

www.last.fm/music/Sex+Positions
www.myspace.com/sexpositions
from: Boston, U.S.
genre: Hardcore / Electro / Punk

Sex Positions were born out of the untimely demise of Boston hardcore stalwarts, The Dedication.

Sex Positions are like no other artists out there. Driven by their dire need for musical experimentation, they harbor just as many new wave and classic punk influences as they do traditional hardcore. Breaking new ground within punk and hardcore scene while nipping at the heels at even the most evolved independent bands out there today.

Sex Positions "Self Titled" CD was released on Deathwish in 2003.

This "Self Titled" CD was produced and engineered by Kurt Ballou @ Godcity Studios (Converge). The album is made up of 11 magnificent songs that are as sonically infectious as they are stunningly unique. Incorporating hardcore, punk, rock, and electronic influences into a new kind of animal.

After the release of their debut, Sex Positions went through a drastic lineup change in the summer of 2004, losing every original member except founding member Eric Marcelino. He soon revamped the band with a new lineup, and played shows up and down the east coast in support of the album. In early 2005, Sex Positions headed out on their first European tour as a four piece. The band made the best of the situation, playing successful shows with Converge, Modern Life is War, and others.

They changed their name for "NECKBOLTS" after the leaving of the two foundators members.

Crystal Castles

genre: Electro / Experimental

Crystal Castles' music is easily recognized by their heavy use of samples and distorted female vocals. Crystal Castles does not in fact use a modified keyboard with an Atari 5200 sound chip as an oscillator, as it is frequently claimed. Their musical style has been described as having "ferocious, asphyxiating sheets of warped two-dimensional Gameboy glitches and bruising drum bombast pierce [the] skull with sheer shrill force, burrowing deep into the brain like a fever". Indie music review website, Pitchfork, gave a positive review of Crystal Castles' remix of "Leni" by GoodBooks, and described the style as "pitch-shifted vocal snippets [that] ricochet like pinballs around Crystal Castles' patented 8-bit synths".

Maniquí Lazer

www.myspace.com/elmaniquilazer
from: Mexico
genre: Experimental / Electro / Punk

Hi-fi attitude compresse in lo-fi seconds twined with noisy synthetic pop winks…“Lazer punk” they call it. What Rodo (bass and keyboards), Valentín Torres (keyboards) and Jung Sing (drums and vocals) have been doing since the beginning of 2005, in the warm border city of Mexicali, Mexico, is something far beyond “simple” punk.
This young musician’s power combo, with a sinister humor and electronic hints, roughly deconstruct rock music that, until today, has grown a great legion of fans all over the country. These three mannequins breakthrough the conventional apparel, making you go wild and dance with music you’re not even supposed to dance to. Maniqui Lazer blends the heritage of Iggy Pop’s attitude on stage and the impudence of The Liars live.
Maniqui Lazer may fill the gap between the sound of The Blood Brothers, Les Georges Leningrad and XBXRX. Their debut album was produced by Mexicali’s techno favorite Ruben Tamayo a.k.a Fax (Traum, Static Discos, Rocket Racer).
That might explain why in such a short time, they’ve shared stage with bands like: Xiu Xiu, Viking Moses!, Erase Errata, The Black Lips, The Spits, XBXRX (together they toured border cities in early ‘06), Montag, The Locust (toured mexico in june ’07), Sleeping People, Crystal Castles, James Holden, The Rapture, Numbers, My Disco as well as known mexican artists like Fax, Zoe, Plastilina Mosh, Silverio, Childs, Austin TV, Insite, E.lebleu, She’s a Tease, Quiero Club, Panoptica, Niño Astronauta, Titán, Fancy Free among others.

So Many Dynamos

http://a33.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/89/l_c0833c15478e9f2a52afb80ff2d83600.jpg
www.myspace.com/somanydynamos
from: St. Louis, Missouri U.S.
genre: Indie / Rock / Electro

In 2004, St. Louis's So Many Dynamos released their debut full length, "When I Explode." It was not an Arcade Fire/Clap Your Hands Say Yeah indie rock breakout success story. It didn't catapult the band onto the front of magazine covers or land them backstage snorting lines off of Jack White's Grammy. It did however, do what debut full lengths should do for young bands from moderately ignored towns on small labels; it exposed the band to those willing to listen, received nods from Spin Magazine and Entertainment Weekly among others, and acted as the hypothetical fuel (read: cheaper than real fuel) to carry a GMC Vandura across over 30 states for over 200 shows. Now So Many Dynamos return with "Flashlights", their second full length for Seattle's Skrocki Records.

"Flashlights" is the sophomore record that young bands from moderately ignored towns on small labels are supposed to make; it expands on their debut in every aspect. The band's unique brand of chaotic pop has been sharpened, refined. The songs are catchier, noisier, dancier, smarter, often weaving in and out, Frogger-style, between anthematic choruses and epileptic freakouts. The band has also learned how the recording studio works, harnessing the urgency of their live performances into ones and zeroes and throwing some unexpected instruments into the fold (4 piece horn section, 30 piece choir, toy accordion, banjo, thumb piano, etc.)
